Ceftriaxone is used to cure a wide variety of bacterial infections. This medicine belongs to a class of drugs known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria and this medicine is not recommended for use in a newborn with high blood bilirubin levels and premature infants due to the increased risk of side effects. 


This medicine is given by injection into a muscle or vein as directed by your doctor, generally once or twice daily. The dosage of this medicine is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Drink plenty of fluids while using this medicine unless your doctor directed you otherwise.
If you are using this medicine at home, learn about all the preparation and usage instructions from your health care professional. Avoid mixing ceftriaxone with IV fluids that have calcium in them such as Ringer’s solution, Hartmann’s solution, parenteral nutrition-TPN/PPN. Before using this medicine, check the product visually for particles and discoloration, if either present, do not use this medicine.

Redness, swelling, or pain at the injection site might occur. If any of these effects last or get worsen, consult with your doctor immediately.
Many people who are using this medicine do not experience any serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects which include: unusual tiredness, symptoms of gallbladder disease (such as stomach/abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea), easy bleeding/bruising, pink/bloody/dark urine, painful/frequent urination, back/side pain, yellowing skin/eyes, signs of kidney problems(such as a change in the amount of urine), uncontrollable movements, mental/mood changes (such as confusion), seizures.
This medicine might rarely cause a serve intestinal condition of Clostridium diffcile-associated diarrhea due to a type of resistant bacteria. This condition might occur during the treatment or weeks to months after the treatment has stopped. Talk with your doctor right away if you develop: diarrhea that does not stop abdominal or stomach pain/cramping, blood/mucus in your stool.
Do not use anti-diarrhea or opioid medications if you have any of these symptoms because these products might make them worsen. 
Use this medicine for prolonged or repeated periods might result in oral thrush or a new yeast infection. Tell your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge, or other new symptoms.
If ceftriaxone is mixed with a numbing medication such as lidocaine before injection into the muscle, it might rarely cause a serious blood problem(methemoglobinemia). get medical help straight away if you have any very serious side effects include pale/grey/blue skin, fast heartbeat, shortness of breath.
A very serious side allergic reaction to this drug is very rare. However, get the medical help straight away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including swelling/itching (especially of face/tongue, throat), serve dizziness, trouble breathing, rash.

 


Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it, or to another antibiotic such as penicillins, other cephalosporins, or if you have any other allergies. This product might contain inactive ingredients which can cause allergic reactions and other problems. 
Before using this medicine, tell the doctor your medical history especially of gallbladder, disease, kidney disease, liver disease, stomach/intestinal diseases such as colitis. 
Do not give this product by the vein that contains calcium including IV solutions such as Ringer’s solution, Hartmann’s solution, parenteral nutrition-TPN/PPN to a newborn less than 1-month-old who is receiving this medicine. Doing this can cause serious problems in the vital organs.
Ceftriaxone might cause live bacterial vaccines such as typhoid vaccine to not work as well. Do not have any vaccination/immunizations while using this medicine unless your doctor tells you to.
Before having surgery, tell your doctor about all the products you use including your prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.
