Diclofenac is a prescription drug that comes in an oral capsule, topical gel, eye drops, transdermal patch, topical solution, oral tablet, and powder packets for oral suspension. Diclofenac gel is available in the form of a generic drug. Generic drugs normally cost less than the brand-name version. Diclofenac is used to treat mild to moderate pain or some symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAID).

The drug works by blocking a specific enzyme in your body. When the enzyme is blocked, your body decreases the amount or number of inflammatory chemicals it makes. This helps in the reduction of inflammation and pain.
