This medicine can be taken as an oral tablet. It is also available in the form of injection, but this form is typically used to resist serve bleeding due to surgery or trauma.

Some of the side effects are common and do not require any kind of medical attention. When your body gets used to it the side effects will go away. Side effects are:-

Diarrhea

Nausea

Stomach pain or discomfort

Fever

Chills

Vomiting

Serve headache(throbbing)

Muscle pain

Difficulty moving

Mefenamic acid is a prescription drug that comes as an oral capsule.

The mefenamic acid oral capsule is also available as a generic drug which are less cheaper in cost than the brand-name version. Mefenamic acid is used to cure mild to moderate pain and dysmenorrhea known as menstrual cramps. This medicine is approved to treat pain in people who are at least 14 years old. It is approved to treat menstrual cramps for no longer time than 2 to 3 days.

This medicine belongs to a class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs). NSAIDs help in reducing pain, inflammation, and fever. it might help to reduce swelling by lowering levels of prostaglandin, a hormone-like substance that generally causes inflammation.

Mefenamic acid oral capsule does not cause drowsiness. But yes, it can cause other side-effects:-

Mefenamic acid dose

Mefenamic acid dose for mild to moderate pain:-

Adult dosage(for ages 18 years and older)

The first dose is 500mg. After that take dose of 250mg every six hours as needed.

You must not take mefenamic acid for longer than seven days.

Child dosage(for age 14-17 years)

The first dose is 500 mg. After that take dose of 250mg every six hours as needed.

You must not take mefenamic acid for longer than seven days.

Adult dosage(ages 18 years and older)

Start this medicine when your bleeding and symptoms begin. The first dose is 500mg. After that take dose of 250mg every six hours as needed.

You must not take mefenamic acid for longer than three days.

Child dosage(ages 14-17 years)

Start this medicine when your bleeding and symptoms begin. The first dose is 500mg. After that take dose of 250mg every six hours as needed.

Child dosage(for ages 0-13 years)

Dosage doe people younger than 14 years has not been established.

People with liver problems:- if you have a liver problem, your body may not be an ability to process this medicine well. This might cause an increase in the amount of mefenamic acid in your blood and increase your risk of side effects. Your doctor may recommend a decreased dosage.

People with kidney problems:-

If you have a kidney problem, your body may not be able to clear out this medicine as well it should. This might cause an increase in the amount of mefenamic acid in your blood and increase your risk of side effects. Your doctor may recommend a decreased dosage.
